9.3Avoiding repeated alerts (cooldown)

The cooldown is the shortest time between two alerts for the same monitor. By default it is 15 minutes.

It matters when a monitor recovers and then fails again soon after. Failures inside the cooldown do not open a new incident or alert you. After the cooldown, the next failure that reaches the threshold alerts you again.

Change it for one monitor#

  1. Open the monitor and edit it (see 3.7).
  2. In the paging block, enter minutes between pages. Use whole minutes, from 1 to 1440 (24 hours). Leave it blank to use the default.
  3. Select save changes →.

Through the API, send cooldownSeconds with UpdateMonitor, in seconds from 60 to 86400. Send 0 to go back to the default.

Set a 30-minute cooldown
bash
curl -s "$API/monitor/obsrvly.v1.MonitorConfigService/UpdateMonitor" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OBSRVLY_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"id": "<monitor-id>", "cooldownSeconds": 1800}'

A value outside the range returns cooldown_seconds must be 0 (default) or 60-86400.
