9.7Reminders

By default, an outage alerts you once. A reminder alerts you again while the monitor stays down. Reminders are off by default.

  1. Open the monitor and edit it (see 3.7).
  2. In the paging block, find remind every, while it stays down.
  3. Choose off, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 6h or 24h.
  4. Select save changes →.

How reminders behave#

  • A reminder goes out when a check fails at least that long after the first alert or the last reminder. So reminders never come more often than the monitor's checks.
  • Reminders say Still down or Still degraded, and how long it has been down.
  • Reminders stop when the incident is resolved or someone acknowledges it.
  • A reminder due while the monitor is muted or in a maintenance window is dropped. It is not sent later.
  • If the first alert was held back, no reminders are sent.

Through the API, send renotifyIntervalSeconds with UpdateMonitor. Use 0 for off, or 300 to 86400 seconds (5 minutes to 24 hours). The API accepts any value in that range. The dashboard offers only the choices above.

Remind every 30 minutes
bash
curl -s "$API/monitor/obsrvly.v1.MonitorConfigService/UpdateMonitor" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OBSRVLY_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"id": "<monitor-id>", "renotifyIntervalSeconds": 1800}'

A value outside the range returns renotify_interval_seconds must be 0 (off) or 300-86400.
