14.1Your team
A team is the shared space that your monitors, channels and settings belong to. Some screens call it an "organization" or a "workspace". They mean the same thing.
Every account works in a team#
- You need a team to use the dashboard. There is no personal space.
- If you are signed in but no team is active, obsrvly takes you to a page where you create a team or pick one. While it loads, you see "setting up your workspace…".
- When you create your first team, you are also offered a step to invite members (14.2).
- The person who creates a team is its owner (14.3).
What belongs to the team#
These belong to the team. Every member works with the same ones:
- monitors
- alert channels
- secrets
- API keys
- maintenance windows
- the status page
- the team's alert defaults
Switch between teams#
You can belong to more than one team. Everything you see and change belongs to the team that is active in the team switcher.
- Open the team switcher at the top right of the dashboard. It sits to the left of the theme button and the sign-out button.
- Pick a team from the list. To start a new team, create one from the same list.
- The dashboard reloads with that team's data.
Open the team window#
Select billing in the top navigation, then team. The team window opens over the page. Here you manage members and roles. You can also change the team name or delete the team. Next to team you find plans and audit log.
Email the team receives#
| Who gets it | |
|---|---|
| Weekly report | Every current member of the team. People who leave the team stop getting it. |
| Plan-limit warning | Team owners only. It is sent once when you near a limit (from 80%) and once when you reach it (100%). |
If your team is suspended#
A suspended team shows this banner:
This workspace is suspended. Checks are paused and changes are disabled.
Contact support to restore it.- Checks do not run, and you cannot save changes.
- In the API, a save fails with
failed_precondition. To check a team's state through the API, see chapter 13. - Contact support to restore the team.
Teams and the API#
- An API key (a secret token that lets scripts call obsrvly, chapter 13) always acts for one team.
- You never name the team in a request. obsrvly takes it from the key. A
teamIdin a request body is ignored. - No API call lists, adds or removes members. Use the team window for that.
