9.6Acknowledge an incident

To acknowledge an incident means to tell your team that someone is working on it.

  1. Select alerting, then incidents.
  2. On a firing incident, select Acknowledge.
  3. The incident now shows acknowledged by with your email address and the time.

What happens next:

  • Reminders for that incident stop (see 9.7).
  • The resolved message is still sent when the problem ends.
  • Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord and Telegram channels get a short notice: Acknowledged: <monitor>. In PagerDuty, the incident is acknowledged too.
  • It covers this one incident only, not later ones.
  • You cannot undo it. Acknowledging again does nothing and sends no second notice.
  • It shows in the audit log (see 14.5).

If it fails, the page shows Could not acknowledge: <message>. You cannot acknowledge an incident that is already resolved.

Through the API#

Call AcknowledgeIncident with the incident's alertId from ListIncidents. The incident then shows the API key's name, for example API key "ci-bot".

Acknowledge an incident
bash
curl -s "$API/alert/obsrvly.v1.AlertService/AcknowledgeIncident" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OBSRVLY_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"alertId": "<alert-id>"}'

A resolved incident returns failed_precondition with incident already resolved. An unknown ID returns not_found with incident not found.
